This special tour takes visitors to discover the charm of Sichuan, have an in-depth look at the culture of the province, visit ancient towns, explore National Parks, sample the tantalizing Szechuan cuisine, and spend a day doing voluntary work helping out in the Dujiangyan Panda Centre, a truly life time experience!


Day 1 Chengdu Arrive in Chengdu, the capital of the colourful province of Sichuan, stay for two nights at the 4*Tianfu Sunshine Hotel.

Day 2 Chengdu Visit the vivid Wenshu Monastery, dedicated to the Buddhist incarnation of wisdom, and relax in the tea house under the ginkgo trees. Continue to admire poetic river views from Wanjianglou Pavilion that stands in its own bamboo park, and visit the museum of brocade before walking through Kuanzhai Lanes, lined with traditional houses decorated with intricate woodcarving and red lanterns. Later attend a show - Sichuan ‘face-changing’ Opera – see if you can spot how the performers swap their masks so quickly! B/L/D


Day 3 Huanglong Fly to Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan’s foremost nature reserve, aland of fairy-tale beauty. Known as the Nine Village Valley after its wonderfully picturesque Tibetan settlements, it is also noted for its stunning scenery of craggy mountains, tiered waterfalls and 114 clear, jewel-like lakes. Stay two nights at the 4*New Jiuzhai Hotel in the wildly romantic Huanglong, or Yellow Dragon, scenic area. Note that the altitude here is around 11,500ft above sea level. B/L/D

Day 4 Jiuzhaigou These once-hidden villages are surrounded by spectacular landscapes that are home to a wealth of endemic flora and fauna. 40% of all China’s plants are found here, 223 species of birds, as well as giant pandas, red pandas, Sichuan golden monkeys and Asiatic black bears. B/L/D


Day 5 Jiuzhaigou/Chengdu/Dujiangyan Enjoy the wonderful landscapes in the morning. Drive to airport for your flight back to Chengdu. Drive to Dujiangyan for an overnight stay. B/L
1 night in 4* Jin Hong Guo Yan Hotel


Day 6 Dujiangyan/Chengdu Today, you will visit the Dujiangyan Panda Base to get close look to one of the world most adorable and endangered species. The base supports animals living in the wild and also works on a successful breeding program. You will have the opportunity to do voluntary work which includes cleaning the Panda sanctuary , feeding the pandas , preparing food at Panda Kitchen and visiting the Panda Museum, after all jobs have been done, you will be awarded a certificate for doing the Voluntary work at the centre. Drive back to Chengdu. B/L(The lunch would be arranged in the dining hall with other stuff.)

Note:Today’s service will include the volunteer work at Dujiangyan Panda Base, you can take the volunteer jobs arranged by the centre. The volunteer work is subject to availability as it depends on the physical condition of the pandas on day of the visit. The volunteer job won’t include the fee to cuddle the pandas. Visitors can cuddle the pandas unless they donate fund to the centre.
2 nights in 4* Tianfu Sunshine Hotel


Day 7 Chengdu/Mount.Leshan/Huanglongxi /Chengdu A day trip to Leshan to see ‘Da Fo, the Giant Buddha which is the largest stone-carved Buddha in the world at 71m high. A cruise on the Min River will give you a spectacular view of this majestic statue and you will have a chance to get closer to the Buddha when the boat moors. Afternoon visit to Huanglongxi, you will be driven to the 1700 year old town of Huanglongxi in West Sichuan. Huanglongxi dates from the Three Kingdoms Period (220-280) when the town was of strategic importance to the capital of the Shu Kingdom, Chengdu. Here you will find some of western china's best preserved ancient buildings, and has a tranquil feel accentuated by a river running through the town. Wander through the narrow lanes flanked by Ming and Qing era buildings, and visit a number of interesting temples located in the centre of town. B/L

Day 1 London/Beijing (You can book your international flights by yourself or through China Holidays 020 7487 2999)Begin your unique holiday by making your own way to London Heathrow for an overnight flight to Beijing.

 

Day 2 Beijing    On arrival in Beijing, transfer to the 4* Novotel Xinqiao Hotel for three nights. This afternoon, you will enjoy the charm of the Hutong,visit the Hutong Museum which used to be the house of a famous Chinese painter. Enjoy welcome dinner tonight. D
 

Day 3 Beijing 9:00-11:30 Chinese Courses, including 1 hour Mandarin lesson and 1 hour culture course: Chinese painting. After the course, you will depart for the Great Wall. Walk along one of the most dramatic sections of the Great Wall of China that snakes across the rugged mountain landscape. B/L
Optional tour: Peking Opera in Liyuan Theatre

 

Day 4 Beijing 9:00-11:30 Chinese Courses, including 1 hour Mandarin lesson and 1 hour culture course: Chinese tea ceremony. After the course, you will start your amazing tour.From Tiananmen Square enter the Forbidden City, the imperial palace, and gaze around the grand ceremonial halls and peek into the private family quarters. Later enjoy a relaxing free time in Houhai. B/L


Day 5 Beijing 9:00-11:30 Chinese Courses, including 1 hour Mandarin lesson and 1 hour culture course: Taichi boxing. After the course, you will continue to explore the city. Firstly visit the Summer Palace, luxurious royal garden for royal families to rest and entertain. Then visit the magnificent red and gold Temple of Heaven that was built for the Emperor, the son of Heaven, to make sacrifices for a good harvest. B/L

Day 6 Beijing/ Xi’an by train G87(1400-1830) 9:00-11:30 Chinese Courses, including 1 hour Mandarin lesson and 1 hour culture course: Chinese dumpling making. In the afternoon, transfer to rail station for 4.5 hours high speed train to Xian and spend 2 nights in the one of most historical cities in China. B/L
2 nights in Xi’an at 4* Garden Hotel


Day 7 Beijing London See the 7,000 terracotta soldiers that have stood guard over China's first emperor for over 2,200 years, and they still stand in battle formation in giant exhibition halls erected around the pits where they were discovered in the 1970s. This afternoon see Xi’an's immense City Wall complete with towers and battlements, and tonight we are guests at the Tang Dynasty show, an enchanting performance of music and dance from another era. Day 8: Xi’an/Shanghai Visit Xi’an's first-class Shaanxi Provincial Museum where 300,000 objects from every dynasty since a thousand years before Christ are displayed. Fly to Shanghai. B/L
3 nights in Shanghai at 4* Ocean Hotel


Day 9: Shanghai 9:00-11:30 Chinese Courses, including 1 hour Mandarin lesson and 1 hour culture course: Chinese Calligraphy. After the course you will start your tour. You will stroll through Yuyuan Garden, an oasis of calm and beauty in the midst of the bustling city. Later, you will visit the Bund, Shanghai's riverside promenade with futuristic skyscrapers on one bank and grand 19th century European architecture on the other. Later, enjoy your free time in Xin Tian Di, one of the most dynamic areas. B/L

Day 10: Shangahi/Suzhou/Shanghai Today car transfer from Shanghai to Suzhou and visit two of Suzhou’s favorite classical gardens, the Humble Administrator’s Garden, and the Garden of the Master of the Nets. Admire exquisite handicraft at the Silk Embroidery Institute. Return to Shanghai in this afternoon. Farewell dinner this evening. B/L/D
