THE HONG KONG
SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGION (HKSAR)
Hong Kong needs little introduction and remains a
very popular extension tour.
Culture and heritage is what sets Hong Kong
apart from the rest of Asia – indeed the world.
Hong Kong is a unique fusion of Eastern and
Western cultures where the old and the new live
side by side. Its incense-filled temples, glass-andsteel skyscrapers and noisy festivals have made
Hong Kong the premier tourist destination in Asia.
We can organize a range of trips for you, the most
requested is the half day coach trip around Hong
Kong island. However, traveling around Hong Kong’s
various islands is so easy with nearly every sign post
in English! Maybe it is tempting to explore this region
on your own. Of course you must experience the Star
Ferry that links Kowloon, where most of the hotels,
restaurants and night markets are, to Hong Kong
Island one of the world’s famous city centers. We
believe some of the highlights of Hong Kong to be:
Victoria Harbour
Take a Harbour tour during the day to see one of
the world’s busiest ports with all the freighters at
close range, however, not to be missed is the
Technicolor sky at night create by ‘A Symphony
of Lights’. This spectacular multimedia display of
colored lights, laser beams and searchlights has
already been named the “World’s Largest
Permanent Light and Sound Show” by the
Guinness World Records.
Victoria Peak
Take the funicular railway to the top of ‘The Peak’. This tram has been operating since 1888. If your timetable allows go up late afternoon and watch the city’s lights transform Hong Kong to a magical ‘fairy light show’.
Street Markets in Kowloon
Temple Street Night Market is Hong Kong's most famous open-air market, which comes to life at dusk, with a bustling array of stalls selling everything from watches and leatherwear to clothing and souvenirs.
The day time Jade Market is good place to pick up inexpensive
costume jades. Ladies' Market is a day-long
street market devoted to anyone with an eye for
bargain-priced clothing, toys, cosmetics and
household knick-knacks.
A visit to Stanley can include a little sprinkling
of everything the historic town has to offer: this
means getting just enough sun on the sandy
beaches, purchasing a few baubles and cheap
goods from the market, and taking advantage of
the alfresco dining. With culinary options that
range as widely as Stanley’s, it’s more than feasible
to weave your way through the packed Main
Street restaurant row trying appetizers, sharing
meals and swilling a perfectly chilled glass of wine,
sangria or beverage of your choice while the sun
slowly sets on this buzzing seaside destination.
Aberdeen Harbour
Take a 20-minute sampan ride and cruise around the typhoon shelter to see the old fishing community still living on their boats.
OUTLYING ISLANDS
Cheung Chau
The Pak Tai & Tin Hau temples are excellent examples of 17th / 18th Century temples where the faithful come and worship the Goddess of the Sea and Taoist god called ‘Supreme Emperor of the Dark Heaven’.
Lantau Island
The largest of the outlying islands Lantau, is of course the site of the International airport and the new Disneyland, but peace and quiet can be found on the white sands of Cheung Sha beach. Marvel at the Po Lin Monastery and the World’s tallest outdoors seated bronze Buddha.
Lamma
Famous for its Harbour front Seafood restaurants. If you have the energy Lamma offers a rewarding walk to the high point of the island where you can really ‘get away from it all!’
NEW TERRITORIES
Visit the New territories, also known as the Gateway to China, here you will see much of Hong Kong's rich heritage that has been restored to its former glory.
Visit Man Mo Temple, dedicated to the gods of Man (literature) and Mo (martial arts). Step back into the mid-1800s as you enter Tai Fu Tai, the opulent residence built by a scholar who was bestowed the title of Tai Fu (mandarin) by a Qing emperor. Lavish plaster mouldings and auspicious Chinese wood carvings adorn its regal interior. Architecture lovers can find similar exquisite décor inside the Tang Chung Ling Ancestral Hall, built in honour of the Tang clan's founding ancestor. The nearby walled village of Lo Wai, offers fascinating sights of village life in the New Territories.
