Mt. Huangshan and ancient villages in southern Anhui
Mt Huangshan (Yellow Mountains) is situated in East China’s Anhui Province
and covers an area of about 250 square kilometres. Known as 'the most
beautiful mountain of China', it was acclaimed through art and literature
during a good part of Chinese history. Mt Huangshan is now a must-see
attraction for visitors and artists famous for its magnificent scenery made up
of granite peaks and rocks emerging out of a sea of clouds.
The two ancient villages of Xidi and Hongcun in southern Anhui have
preserved as distinguished examples of non-urban settlements of a type that has
disappeared or was transformed during the past decades. Their streets’ layout,
architecture and decorations are in typical Ming and Qing Dynasties’ styles.
