China Holiday blog - We are the longest established tour operator in the UK to exclusively
deal with China. We do not sell through the travel trade, we only sell
direct to our passengers.
Welcome to our brand new weblog, from China Holidays and it will include news and information of interest to anyone who wants to know more, if they are a business person or a tourist. It is our hope that clients will 'post' their thoughts and indeed questions . We will encourage all our clients who have traveller with us to post a report about their holiday . we will permit good and bad comments to be posted and hope that the blog build up to become a very useful resource for future client looking to find out about the real China .
In the last 12 months we have seen considerable changes in the type of enquiries we are receiving. Constant news reports about country's latest ‘biggest’, ‘largest’ or ‘fastest’ are leading clients to ask for an ever widening range of tours. Also, many people have travelled either with us before or with other tour operators during the last 15 years or so, and they now want to visit an area away from the headline attractions. Also many of our clients travel on business and they take the opportunity to take a few days exploring the areas of country in which they are doing business.
Over the years we have received many lovely photographs and letters of thanks from returning clients. During this coming year we will add a blog to our web site to enable clients to ‘post’ their comments. Also, we will run an annual photographic competition. We will ask our clients, upon their return, to submit their best photographs to us so that we can publish them on our web site.
Beijing, the capital city, is the nation s political and cultural centre. Beijing
covers an area of 16,800 square kilometres with total population of
over 12 million,of which about 6 million live in the city and the rest
on the outskirts.
As an ancient city with great splendour, Beijing
is full of magnificent palaces and parks and has more than 50 museums.
Among its most popular treasures are:
The
Great Wall, one of the world s most popular tourist attractions, is 3,333
miles long and was built section by section between the 5th century BC
and 16th century AD. The section we are going to visit is called Badaling,
mainly built in Ming Dynasty (1368 1644), it averages 7.8 metres
in height, and is 6.5 metres wide at the base and 5.5 metres wide at
the top. Forbidden
City - Officially known as the Former Imperial Palace or Gugong
, most foreigners prefer the name it was given to indicate that
only the emperor s court and ministers plus the occasional
ambassador bearing tribute were allowed into this small 'city
until the 1920s. The vast, exotic grandeur of the Forbidden City was brilliantly
captured in The Last Emperor which was filmed there. It
is an architectural masterpiece, with a breathtaking symmetry of palatial
pavilions, courtyards, gates, treasure halls and gardens. The Temple of
Heaven is the country s largest temple complex, which represents
a Golden Age of Chinese architecture. The main hall consists of 28 carved
wooden pillars supporting a 125-feet high tower of three conical roofs,
all covered with blue glazed tiles to reflect the colour of the sky.
Also found in the temple grounds is Echo Wall, which carries the smallest
whisper. The Summer
Palace is a former royal resort, which covers an area of 290 hectares.
It mainly consists of a hill, the Longevity Hill and a lake, the Kunming
Lake, with halls, towers, galleries, pavilions, bridges and islands dotted
all over the land, hill and lake. Blending southern style garden architecture
with northern national landscapes, the gardens are probably the best of
their kind in Chinese garden architecture.
