When asking people what they think of when they think of China, many things will come to mind: dragons, the Great Wall, the colour red; yet the one that always seems to be number one in people’s minds is the Giant Panda. Giant Pandas, an animal native solely to China, have long held great importance in Chinese culture. Since the mid-20th Century, the panda has been used as a symbol of cooperation and peace between China and other countries, including the USA, Japan and the UK. The importance of the panda symbol has broken past just being important to China, but now has spread throughout the world, most famously recognised as the symbol of the World Wild Fund for Nature (WWF). The panda was also recently used as the symbol of the Beijing Olympics, in the form of the 5 Fuwa Mascots. At China Holidays, the panda has always been a symbol of the company and really represents the connecting and harmonious service you get from us as customers.
As we can see, the panda is an extremely important and recognisable symbol of China and therefore I will now be describing where in China you can visit these loveable, important but also dangerously rare animals.
Pandas are native to West/South West China, primarily in the provinces of Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi. Sichuan is the most famous home of the pandas and this is the primary area to see pandas as well as in research bases. When coming into Sichuan, you will most likely arrive in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province. Withing the city itself, lies the beautiful constructed Giant Panda Research Base (大熊猫繁育基地). Here you can see giant pandas in a natural enclosed habitat and learn about what China is doing to increase the reproduction of pandas and how China is maintaining their protection in the wild. Here, you can also see the cute red panda and stunning peacocks.
The most famous and the best place to see pandas in their natural habitat is in Baoxing County in Ya’an, Sichuan. Here, the pandas live freely and visitors are able to see how the pandas really live and what it would be like if the population was still at a high level. With China Holidays, we are able to assist in planning trips to this wonderful, unique place and we can also assist in organising volunteering work which you are able to do here, allowing you to learn about and take care of the pandas, playing your own special part in the non-extinction of pandas.
The panda is an internationally recognised symbol of China and there is no place better to travel to, to see these adorable mammals than to China itself. Whether in a zoo, a research base or its own natural habitat, the pandas are always a fantastic attraction to see in China, for people of all ages, and it is important for all people to understand how we can help prevent the extinction of these animals. At China Holidays, we can assist tourists on visiting these animals in any of their habitats and allow tourists to experience and understand why these animals are so integral to Chinese Culture.
